March 25th, 2017 marked an historical moment for the Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) as it was a double occasion for a celebration in the Province of the Immaculate Conception (IVE USA Province). The province, in communion with entire Incarnate Word Family, celebrated the thirty-third anniversary of the foundation of the Institute. In addition to this commemorative moment, the province also had a new reason for celebration; the inauguration of its first IVE Monastery in the providence, located in Auriesville, New York; bringing the number to a total of seven IVE monasteries throughout the world.
Every year the novices from the St. Isaac Jogues Novitiate House have their annual Lenten Mission, usually at parish of the Institute. This year the popular mission was held in Wauchula, Florida at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, an IVE parish and extended from February 25th to March 5th. Fr. Javier Ibarra, the novices, and novices of the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (SSVM) spend their time in Wauchula spreading the Good News and bringing people back to the faith especially during this Lenten season in which we seek God’s mercy and forgiveness.
This year marked the 44th anniversary of the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, which legalized abortion in the United States. Every year since then people have gone to Washington, D.C. to protest in defense of human life. This year, in comparison with last year, due to weather inconveniences, the march was significantly much more well attended as tens of thousands of people came to Washington Mall to March pro-life. The Institute of the Incarnate Word (IVE) as every year seeks to make a good turnout. This year about 270 IVE youth attended March for Life and/or the 3rd Annual Winter Youth Festival. The Institute had youth from all over the USA; coming from Alabama, New York, Florida, Wisconsin, Pennsylvanian and Connecticut, some even came from Canada.
Recently, brothers from the Fulton Sheen Seminary of the IVE, in Washington DC – traveled to Argentina. Father Christopher Etheridge, Deacon Wilian Valle, and 5 brothers spent the Thanksgiving holiday and the following week with other members of the IVE family which included time at the “Finca”, the first IVE seminary and motherhouse, with several 3rd order host families. The spirit of charity and joy made a deep impression on those who took part in the trip.
December 17th marks the ordination of the Institute’s newest priest, Fr. Brendan Anthony O’Rourke, IVE an Irishman from the country’s capital, Dublin. Having been already assigned to his mission in Massachusetts, Fr. Brendan returned to the seminary and the parish of St. John Baptist de LaSalle for his ordination to the priesthood. Families and friends traveled from as far as Ireland to be present for the ordination.
